Vancouver painters
Rain nine months a year is hard on paint. Most peeling on Vancouver houses isn’t bad paint. It’s paint that went onto damp wood, over failed caulking, or without primer. We do the slow part first: scraping, sanding, caulking and priming. Then the paint lasts.
Know your house
What we look at before we quote, and a few things worth knowing as a homeowner.
Fir siding and trim with decades of paint on them. The scraping and spot priming take longer than the painting, and that’s what keeps it from peeling again in two winters.
Big flat stucco walls and a lot of trim. A two- or three-colour scheme on the trim and railings is often all it takes to make one look current.
Paint from before 1978 can contain lead. If your house is that old, ask how the old paint will be removed and cleaned up. We’ll go through it at the estimate.
Exterior paint needs dry surfaces and a few dry days to cure. In Vancouver that usually means May to September, so it pays to book outside work early in the year.
Downtown buildings come with rules: elevator bookings, quiet hours, loading zones. We sort that out with your building manager before day one.
Vancouver’s grey light makes colours look cooler and darker than on the chip. Paint a sample on the wall and look at it on a cloudy afternoon before you decide.

Usually moisture. Paint over damp wood, missing caulking or bare spots without primer lets water get behind it. The cause gets fixed first, then the paint.
Siding typically lasts 7 to 10 years. South- and west-facing walls, trim and railings usually need attention sooner because they take the most sun and rain.
May to September, when it’s dry enough for paint to cure properly. Interior painting can be done any time of year.
